What is the Gallup student poll?

The Gallup Student Poll is a 20-question survey that measures the level of engagement, hope, entrepreneurial aspiration and career & financial literacy of students from Year 6 to Year 13. The survey also has four demographic items and an optional faith index.

The Gallup Student Poll is an annual survey that is conducted globally. The survey measures the core elements that drive student success. It provides a viable alternative to the NZCER Me and My School survey and taps into aspects of learner agency, which we are passionate about!

Gallup education has more than 40 years of data and analytics on what makes exceptional school leaders and teachers. Their research has revealed that the best educators cultivate their students’ strengths, and learn about their hopes and dreams.

The Gallup Student Poll helps educators provide a more positive school culture and measures hope for the future, engagement with school, and other factors that have been shown to drive students’ grades, achievement scores, retention and future employment.

How widely used is the Gallup Student Poll?

So far, Gallup has measured nearly 5 million students voices worldwide and provided data on dimensions of student success using this tool. The Gallup Student Poll has these key findings:

• Engaged Students are 2.5x more likely to say that they get excellent achievement than their Actively Disengaged peers.
• Hopeful Students are 2.8x more likely to say that they get excellent achievement than their Discouraged peers.

How much is the Gallup Student Poll and when does it run?

The survey runs annually. This year it runs from 2 August – 28 August 2020. If your school has 75 or less students, the cost is $5/student, If your school is 76 or greater students, the maximum cost of the survey is $850 for the entire school.
